Mission Statement

At Waves of Change, our mission is to empower individuals, couples, and families to create lasting, meaningful change through compassionate, evidence-based therapy.

Our Philosophy

At Waves of Change, we believe that meaningful change begins within and unfolds through intentional, supported effort over time. Life’s challenges—whether experienced individually or within relationships—can feel overwhelming, but they also offer opportunities for growth, insight, and transformation.

Our approach is collaborative, respectful, and grounded in evidence-based practices. We view clients as active participants in their own change process and work alongside them to increase self-awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, improve communication, and shift patterns that no longer serve them. Therapy is tailored to each person or relationship, honoring unique experiences, values, and goals.

We are committed to creating a therapeutic space that feels safe, supportive, and empowering. Whether engaging in individual, couples, group, or intensive therapy, our focus remains on helping clients develop the clarity, skills, and confidence needed to navigate life’s waves and create lasting change.

About Erin Southerington, LCMFT, LMFT

I am a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist in Maryland and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Delaware, with experience in the mental health field since 2015. I earned my graduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston in May 2016 and have worked with clients across a variety of settings, including in-home therapy, outpatient office-based care, virtual therapy, and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).

My approach to therapy is collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I completed additional training in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), allowing me to tailor treatment to each client’s needs while supporting meaningful and lasting change. I am also a Prepare-Enrich Certified Facilitator to help couples in premarital counseling.

I believe clients are the experts in their own lives, and my role is to provide guidance, structure, and support as they navigate challenges and create the change they desire.
